This high-relief stein was created from an original fashioned in the 1600s. The slender tall shape features a handsome stein base and rim decorated with multiple cobalt blue bands. Especially impressive is the arrangement of three corresponding panels in dramatic high-relief depicting a monarch standing in front of a background of several churches. It is thought to be the warrior, crusaded and reformer Charlemagne, the first western emperor of Christianity. Ornate scrolls and flourishes as well as decorative medieval mask frame the central motif in beautiful bas relief. The inside of the designed pewter lid bears the year the stein was made and the year the original was fashioned.
