The first edition, "Dad's Pride & Joy," showcases one of America's favorite breeds: the Labrador Retriever. Wildlife artiest Jim Killen illustrated the magnificent full-color artwok in the center of the stein. His detailed portait captures the pups' first outing, as they develop their skills under the watchful eye if their experienced papa. Framing Killen's artwork on the center of this stein are scenes in deep ceramic relief designed by noted stein artist and avid outdoorsman Jim Wainwright. One side shows ducks among the riverbank reeds, and the other, a dog flushing out a pheasant and covey of quail. A ceramic relief cattail adorns the stein's handle, while the pewter thumbrest is engraved with the image of a duck. And topping the stein's pewter lid is a ceramic inset featuring one of the puppies in the hunting party.
